JUEGOS RANCHEROS PRESENTS: #SELFIETENNIS
Always wanted to become a tennis pro without the hassle of finding a partner to play against? Then join us this Thursday, April 7th, at 7:00PM at Austin’s North Door, as JUEGOS RANCHEROS presents VRUnicorn’s virtual-reality solo-tennis simulator, #SelfieTennis.
[ RSVP FOR THIS EVENT AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK BY CLICKING HERE! ]
Freshly announced as the first VR game published by Austin’s own Devolver Digital, #SelfieTennis more or less instantly became one of our favorite things to do with the Vive.
It’s the Wii Sports/Mario Tennis virtual reality needed: a super colorful, super simple & super accessible sports game, where the catch is that you’re always playing against yourself.
Lob a ball across the net & you’re instantly transported to the opposite side of the court, where you can return your own serve and keep the ball in play as long as you can, or simply give in to your own frustration and find your own fun by pinging your ball against the heads of the court’s deliriously cheerful on-lookers.
Devolver will be providing some of the night’s best players with keys for the game (which is currently on sale on Steam!) so you can continue your quest for mastery back home. With some luck, we may even have a quick hello from one of the VRUnicorns themselves, and ample opportunities to tweet out a gif of yourself playing via the newly-added in-game selfie stick.

JUEGOS RANCHEROS PRESENTS: SUPERHYPERCUBE
Ready to kick off 2016 with a night of firsts? Our first JUEGOS RANCHEROS meetup of the new year is also our first very special virtual reality presentation: join us this Thursday, January 7th, at 7:00PM at Austin’s North Door, as JUEGOS RANCHEROS presents KOKOROMI’s first-person puzzler, SUPERHYPERCUBE.
[ RSVP FOR THIS EVENT AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK BY CLICKING HERE! ]
Making its debut on Sony’s highly anticipated PlayStation VR platform, KOKOROMI describes SUPERHYPERCUBE as a retro-future game in which you float through virtual world, rotating a cluster of cubes to narrowly fit through an endless stream of form-fitting walls.
Inspired by the user interfaces and analog special effects of classic films like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner & Xanadu, SUPERHYPERCUBE is one of our first favorite VR games, which has us as excited for the upcoming wave of new & more immersive games as anything else we’ve seen.
Members of KOKOROMI — the videogames/art collective originally formed in Montreal in 2006 — will be on hand for a short presentation, and to gently guide you through your first dip into the game’s warm and analog world, previously only seen at special events like XOXO and the PlayStation Experience.
SUPERHYPERCUBE will be playable Thursday, January 7th, at 7:00PM at North Door, 501 Brushy Street, Austin, TX 78702. The show is free, all ages, and open to all the public, so come join us as we drink, play and meet the people changing the way we think about games!
FANTASTIC ARCADE AT HOME: OUR 2015 VIDEOS ARE NOW AVAILABLE
Better late than never, we’ve just released video of nearly every session that took place at this year’s Fantastic Arcade for your at-home perusal. Included in the full playlist above are nearly 30 sessions by developers including Double Fine and Arcane Kids, and our usual selection of amazing tournaments like ROCKET LEAGUE and VIDEOBALL.
[NOTE: a few of our live-streamed videos — including our N++ tournament and Wheels of Aurelia developer commentary — have been automatically muted & otherwise blocked by both Twitch & YouTube Content ID systems. We’re working to restore as much of these sessions as we’re able to & host them where we can, as we have with Sam Barlow’s Her Story session below!]
You can find a direct link to the entire playlist here, which will also be mirrored at Fantastic Arcade’s official YouTube account, where you can also find more videos from Fantastic Arcades past.
Once you’ve made your way through them all, you can also find an extensive archive of Fantastic Arcade 2014 videos here, including official Nidhogg, Gang Beasts, Towerfall & Nuclear Throne tournaments, as well as sessions on Grim Fandango, Donut County & more!
JUEGOS RANCHEROS PRESENTS: PICO-8
Wonder what your favorite indie developers might make with an imaginary 8-bit console that never existed until now? Join us this Thursday, December 3rd, at 7:00PM at Austin’s North Door, as JUEGOS RANCHEROS presents a variety of amazing games for PICO-8, a new way to make, share & play tiny games.
[ RSVP FOR THIS EVENT AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK BY CLICKING HERE! ]
What exactly is the PICO-8? Created by Joseph ‘Lexaloffle‘ White (also known for the Voxatron), it’s a “fantasy console” that doesn’t just play games, but contains all budding designers need to create new works of their own, and share those games on the web or via downloadable “carts” — which are actually just PNG image files containing all the code to run the game!
For our JUEGOS RANCHEROS presentation, we’ll be bringing a selection of games made for the world’s first PICO-8 game jam, which just drew to a close and has voting for best game underway.

All the games will be playable Thursday, December 3rd, at 7:00PM at North Door, 501 Brushy Street, Austin, TX 78702. The show is free and open to all the public, so come join us as we drink, play and meet the people changing the way we think about games!
THE MUSEUM OF HUMAN AMUSEMENT: WE BUILT AN ARCADE
Austin indie & experimental game lovers rejoice: JUEGOS RANCHEROS is proud to present the opening of The Museum of Human Amusement, an arcade space we’ve built from scratch, debuting Saturday, November 14th at 11am at 3600 Lyons Rd, as part of the East Austin Studio Tours!
The Museum of Human Amusement is was created in partnership with Austin’s esteemed art & event space The Museum of Human Achievement, and spearheaded by our own Rachel ‘Party Time! Hexcellent!‘ Weil.
For its EAST debut, the space will be in operation November 14th & 15th from 11am-6pm, and again November 21st & 22nd at the same time.
The extended JUEGOS family has spent nights & weekends over the past few weeks finishing out the space from inauspicious warehouse beginnings into something pretty special, so we hope you’ll all join us there throughout November!
What will you be able to find there? For starters, the arcade will be home to all of the mini arcade cabinets we debuted at Fantastic Arcade, which you can see more details of here.
The space will also include its own concession stand, selling T-shirts, buttons, stickers & more from both JUEGOS RANCHEROS and a number of associated developers & artists from around Austin.
Below you can find a few more progress shots as we built the arcade. There’s still a ton to do before Saturday, but come celebrate the opening Saturday, November 14th from 11am to 6pm at 3600 Lyons Rd, Austin TX — just steps away from Blue Genie Art Industries & Sa-Ten Coffee.
After EAST has drawn to a close, we’ll still have the space available for future events — keep checking back here to see what we’re doing with the space next!
JUEGOS RANCHEROS PRESENTS: DOWNWELL
After what feels like a very long time away, JUEGOS RANCHEROS is back to celebrate the recent release one of our favorite new games! Join us next Thursday, November 5th, at 7:00PM at Austin’s North Door, as JUEGOS RANCHEROS presents the frantic free-falling new action classic Downwell.
[ RSVP FOR THIS EVENT AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK BY CLICKING HERE! ]
Created by Tokyo-based Orijo “moppin” Fumoto, Downwell is the love-child of games like Spelunky, Cave Story, Super Crate Box and Samurai Gunn, mashed up into a fast-paced but still cerebral action game that’s turned out to be the best new App Store release in ages, and a strong addition to your Steam library, as well.
In addition to giganticizing the tiny iPhone game onto the North Door’s massive two-story screen, chances are good that we’ll be joined remotely by creator Moppin himself to tell us more about where Downwell came from and where his games are headed next.
Downwell will be playable Thursday, November 5th, at 7:00PM at North Door, 501 Brushy Street, Austin, TX 78702. The show is free and open to all the public, so come join us as we drink, play and meet the people changing the way we think about games!
